Ways To Volunteer

Adoptions Leader:
  • Keep pet adoption sites up-to-date (Petfinder, Adopt-A-Pet).
  • Review adoption applications.
  • Facilitate communication between adopter and foster.
  • Supervise volunteers at adoption events.
  • Coordinate with the Foster Volunteer Leader to schedule spay/neuter surgeries and final adoptions.
Volunteer Leader:
  • Identify potential volunteers and help with recruitment.
  • Identify volunteer training needs and schedule training sessions.
  • Plan social gatherings for volunteers, including recognition events.
  • Maintain open lines of communication with volunteers, keeping them informed of LOKR activities and ensuring that all volunteers are well-supported and feel appreciated!
Foster Volunteer Leader:
  • Identify foster training needs and schedule training sessions or learning opportunities.
  • Ensure that all kittens begin vaccinations at the appropriate time.
  • ​Maintain open lines of communication with fosters to ensure they have everything they need.
  • Coordinate with the Adoptions Leader to schedule spay/neuter surgeries and final adoptions.

Foster Volunteer (Weaned Kittens):
Care for and socialize kittens after weaning until they weigh enough for their spay/neuter surgery.

Foster Volunteer (3-6 Week Olds):
Care for kittens once they are using a litter box but still need to be bottle-fed and socialized.

Foster Volunteer (0-3 Week Olds): 
Care for kittens from birth until litter-box trained.

Other Volunteer Opportunities:
There are many ways you can help support LOKR in saving tiny lives!
  • ​Help plan and carry out fundraising or supply donation events.
  • Volunteer for the annual kitten shower.
  • Offer to help the Adoptions Leader with adoptions events, calling references, getting updated kitten photos from foster volunteers, etc.
  • Help the Volunteer Leader with social gatherings and other volunteer support needs.
  • Offer to take photos of adoptable kittens.
  • Transport kittens to/from vet appointments, spay/neuter surgery, final adoption.
  • Identify grant opportunities and write grant applications.
  • And so much more!
